PAT backs Rangers operation in Punjab

South Punjab president wants to start operation
from Punjab ministers, facilitators

MULTAN: Pakistan Awami Tehrik south Punjab president Ch Fayyaz Ahmad Warraich has demanded a full-fledged Rangers operation in the province, starting from the Punjab cabinet members to eliminate political facilitators of terrorist networks.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, PAT leader Ch Fayyaz said that the current wave of terrorism had disturbed the nation and the people were in a great shock. Hundreds of people were killed during the eight incidents of terrorism in five days, he lamented. He alleged that the government had failed in implementing the National Action Plan.

The rulers were not serious to end terrorism and it was clear from the recent wave of terrorism, he alleged. He blamed that facilitators of terrorists were the part of the provincial cabinet. He said that the operation against terrorism would be a futile exercise until the facilitators were not arrested.

He also demanded exemplary punishment for those elements involved in the Lahore Model Town tragedy. Meanwhile, security has been put on red alert in Multan after issuance of a security high alert by RPO Sultan Azam Taimoori after recent terrorist attacks.

Talking to The News, RPO Sultan Azam Taimoori said that directions had been issued to the DPOs of Multan, Khanewal, Vehari and Lodhran, to keep their Jawans alert and do not make any compromise on security.

He said that he had directed the DPOs to increase patrolling and deploy cops in plainclothes at all sensitive and important points in their respective districts. Search operations without any break would continue so that the terrorists and outlaws could be arrested, he added.

He said that the responsibilities of the police had increased keeping in view of prevailing situation. He said that he had issued directions to the district police officers (DPOs) of the Multan region to maintain record of the policemen who were deployed at all sensitive spots and places.

He said that the morale of the policemen was very high and they were ready to meet any emergency situation. He told that the DPOs had been directed to increase deployment of cops at all shrines to avoid any untoward incident. He appealed to the masses to fully cooperate with the police and keep their national identity cards with them while traveling.
