Cable operator shot dead in Frontier Colony attack
A security guard and a cable operator were killed in separate attacks in the city on Monday.
Mohammad Khan, 60, an Al-Hattif Security Company employee deployed at the Best Way Money Changer on II Chundrigar Road, was transporting Rs1.9 million in a private vehicle along with the foreign exchange firm’s staff in the afternoon when two armed men intercepted them near Pakistan Chowk, Arambagh and tried to rob the money.
When the security guard resisted, the robbers opened fire on him and escaped, taking away his rifle and Rs0.4 million with them.
SHO Asif Rauf said Khan had suffered bullet wounds to his chest and was taken to the Civil Hospital Karachi where he succumbed to his injuries.
This year, there have been multiple instances of robberies being foiled by courageous security guards.
On August 10, two would-be robbers were arrested as a bank robbery bid was foiled by a security guard, Jan Masih. CCTV footage of the incident circulated on social media and television channels showed the the suspects flung red chilli powder in Jan Masih’s face in a bid to disarm the guard. However, Jan put up heroic resistance and delayed the robbers enough to allow the other guards to successfully overpower one of the would-be dacoits and chase away the rest.
On April 21, a robbery attempt was foiled by a security guard of a bank at Nagan Chowrangi, who was also injured during the exchange of firing with multiple robbers. Prior to that, on April 15, due to the heroics of a guard, robbers failed to loot a private bank in the Orangi Town.
Earlier on March 29, three security guards had stopped robbers to loot a private bank in the Karimabad area. A guard, Shah Nawaz, an employee of Safety Security Company, fired on the suspects from inside, forcing them to escape.
On March 22, six men had arrived to rob the bank, but police took timely action and foiled the heist bid.
Cable operator killed
A cable operator, Umer-ur-Rehman, 30, was shot dead in Frontier Colony, Peerabad.
Peerabad SHO Shahjehan Lashari said Rehman was present near his hosue on Mondya night when two men riding a motorcycle opened fire on him and fled. He was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he expired during the treatment.
Rehman had suffered bullet wounds to his chest.
The SHO said police had not found spent bullet shell at the crime scene. He added that the motive behind the murder could not be ascertained yet however it seemed that the murder was motivated by personal enmity.
