Lecture on ‘Novel accelerator-based medical radionuclides’ held

Islamabad: A good mixture of medicinal radio-isotopes of same element can be beneficial for accurate diagnosis of cancer. The appropriate approach for usage of medical/particle accelerator will make breakthroughs in near future for cancer treatments in Pakistan.

This was stated by Prof. Dr S.M. Qaim, Foreign Fellow PAS, Research Centre Jülich and University of Cologne, Germany. He was giving a lecture on “Novel accelerator-based medical radionuclides”. The lecture was arranged by Pakistan Nuclear Society (PNS) in collaboration with the Pakistan Academy of Sciences.

At the occasion Dr. N.M Butt, fellow of welcomed the guests. Dr. Ishfaq Ahmad (N.I, H.I., S.I.) as guest of honour along with Zabta Khan Shinwari, secretary general of Pakistan Academy of Sciences were present.

Dr. Syed Javaid Khurshid, president of Pakistan Nuclear Society said that Pakistan Nuclear Society is the credible advocate for the advancement and promotion of nuclear science, technology and allied disciplines in the country. 

He said it is playing an important role in disseminating basic information on the use and application of nuclear energy in various fields and thereby contributing towards public under- standing of the potential of nuclear energy. It is also enhancing awareness in public about safe use of radiation and isotope based technology in the sectors of environment, industry, health & agriculture.

The lecture was attended by a large number of scientists, researchers, medical practitioners and oncologists from different organizations of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
