Lioness at Marghazar Zoo gives stillbirth to two cubs

MCI fails to take proper care of animals at zoo; inquiry ordered

The lioness at Islamabad Marghzar Zoo gave birth to two dead cubs thus exposing claims of the Municipal Corporation of Islamabad (MCI) of providing best facilities to animals at the sole such facility in the federal capital.

According to sources, the lioness was not properly taken care of due to which her two cubs were borne dead. An official at Islamabad Zoo said cubs were borne dead due to cold weather.

It is pertinent to mention that MCI took charge of Islamabad Zoo, a few weeks back.

Meanwhile, Member Administration, Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Chief Officer, Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI), Muhammad Suleman Khan Warraich visited the Marghzaar Zoo on Tuesday. He examined the facilities provided by the zoo administration to the elephant (Kavan).

Muhammad Suleman Khan Warraich ordered for an inquiry into the matter of dead cubs of the lioness and asked them to investigate the case in the light of autopsy report whether the death of these cubs was natural or due to negligence.

He directed the concerned officers of zoo to pay heed to the diet and health of the elephant. He further directed the zoo administration to take measures for better care of the elephant during the ongoing winter season. MCI chief officer directed the concerned officers for attention to the independent movements of the elephant. He further directed for security and safety of children, visiting the zoo so that the children could enjoy the entertainment and recreational activities.
