Nepali ambassador visits RCCI
Rawalpindi: Nepal ambassador Ms. Sewa Lamsal Adhikari paid a visit to the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) and addressed a large gathering of traders and business community here on Monday.
She was accompanied by deputy head of mission Tirtha Raj Aryal. Addressing the business community she appreciated the role of RCCI for promoting bilateral trade relations through single country exhibitions.
She said that the credit goes to RCCI for organising Made in Pakistan Expo for the last seven years. This attracted a large number of visitors and there is a big demand of textile, jewellery and handicrafts. Pakistan and Nepal has strong footage of relationship due to old Gandhara civilization, she added.
The envoy showed her concern that despite huge potential the trade volume between the two countries is very low. There is a need to explore new and favourable opportunities especially in tourism, hydro power and agri-based trade, she further added.
She assured full support and cooperation of her office to boost bilateral trade ties and urged for frequent exchange of trade delegations. Nepal offers lucrative incentives for investors in terms of banking, custom tariff and fees and liberal labour laws, she said. She said that Nepalese people are very thankful to Pakistani government for sending rescue and medical teams during 2015 earthquake in Nepal.
RCCI President Raja Amer Iqbal in his welcome address said that boosting regional trade is the top priority of his office. He referred to RCCI’s trade expos being organized in different countries including Nepal.
He said that bilateral trade volume can be increased through frequent exchange of trade delegations. Joint ventures in pharmaceutical, gem and jewellery and marble and tourism can be helpful here, he suggested.
RCCI president said that the importance of regional trade has been increased due to the China Pakistan Economic Corridor as it offers huge opportunities to regional countries to be a part of upcoming mega trade hub.
