‘Wheelie-doer’ dies near Azadi Chowk

LAHORE

A 22-year-old youth died in a road accident in the Lorry Ada police limits on Monday.

Police said the victim identified as Zain Ali was doing wheelie. As he reached near Azadi Chowk flyover, he lost control over his bike and fell down.

He was shifted to hospital where doctors pronounced him dead. Police removed the body to morgue.

Body found: Body of a 19-year-old boy with marks of torture was recovered from a drain in the Green Town police limits on Monday.The body was packed in a sack. The victim identified as Saqib Ali, a resident of Chungi Amar Sadhu, had gone missing three days before. On Monday, a passerby spotted the body and informed police. police reached the spot on information and removed the body to morgue. 

encounter: A suspected robber was killed in an ‘encounter’ in the Harbanspura police limits on Monday.

Source claimed the victim identified as Abu Bakar was in the custody of Defence-A investigations police. He managed to flee the police custody late Sunday.

After few hours of his escape, he died in a reported police encounter. Police removed the body to morgue. SP Investigations Cantt Division suspended ASI Nasirullah and a constable Waseem on the issue of escape of the suspect. 

Emergency Service: A delegation comprised of 24 officers of Senior Management Course belonging to federal and provincial governments visited Rescue 1122’s Headquarters on Monday. 

The delegation included Abdul Hafeez Nizamani, Additional Commissioner, Abdul Wahab, Ajmal Khan, Deputy DG (Internal Audit), Amjad Hussain, Joint Director, Hadi Bux Zardari, Additional Secretary Women Development, Ikramullah Qadri, Joint Director, Dr Aslam Mari, Additional Director, Javed Soonharo, SSP, Lal Muhammad, Additional Commissioner Muhammad Ali Sheikh and others.  

On their arrival, Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) Director General Dr Rizwan Naseer said Rescue 1122 had a key role in disaster management and rescued 4.4 million emergency victims. He said key objectives of the Service were to provide timely emergency care by providing quality emergency services as per international standards, undertake research to recommend evidence-based measures for prevention of emergencies and contribute towards establishing socially responsible community emergency response teams through awareness enrolment, training and organising volunteers for emergency preparedness, response and prevention.

He highlighted the role of the Service, which works under Punjab Emergency Council, while District Emergency Boards are working at district level for prevention of emergencies.

He said Punjab Emergency Service had been expanded all over the Punjab, while through technical assistance, this model had been replicated in KP, GB, AJK, and Balochistan, whereas the doors of Rescue 1122 were opened to replicate this model in Sindh. He said flood management, firefighting on modern lines, rescue from collapsed structure, urban search and rescue were the key functions of Rescue 1122.

He shared about hectic long journey of bringing emergency services reforms, establishment of Pakistan’s first Modern Emergency Service and provision of technical assistance and expansion to other provinces. Dr Rizwan Naseer briefed them about calls monitoring, operations, evaluation, feedback system, trauma registry mechanism, and other monitoring setup of the Service.

The delegation led by Col (R) Ijaz Ahmad said Rescue 1122 had established a progressive and professional institution for public safety.

The members of the delegation wished other public organisations to follow the footsteps and be a leading organisation like Rescue 1122.

The delegation appreciated the role of Punjab Emergency Service regarding provision of emergency services to the citizens of the Punjab.
