LHC rejects report on action against Altaf
LAHORE
A Lahore High Court full bench on Monday rejected an interior ministry’s report on action being taken against London-based leader of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and directed the secretary interior to apprise about the actions in detail and specifically.
Earlier, Secretary Interior Arif Khan appeared before the bench along with federal government’s law officers and presented a report. Mr Khan said Interior Minister Ch Nisar Ali Khan was in the UK and had the matter of Altaf Hussain taken up with the authorities there. Heading the bench, Justice Syed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi observed the matter pertained to Pakistan and not the UK. He said Altaf Hussain was involved in heinous offence of speaking against Pakistan. The court would not allow anyone to speak against the country.
The bench adjourned hearing until December 7 and directed the secretary interior to come up with a detailed report on the matter.
