The balcony and stairwell of a three-storey dilapidated building located close to the traffic signal at Pakistan Chowk collapsed on Monday.
Sources said that at least 18 people were stuck inside the building because of the incident, and the other residents refused to leave their flats.
The Sindh Building Control Authority had declared that the building was in bad repair and put up a warning notice on the facade.
Later, however, the residents and the owner of the building reached a compromise, and the tenants agreed to vacate their flats.
The owner has agreed to pay Rs150,000 to the occupants of every flat, following which a snorkel evacuated the residents from the building, which was feared to collapse any time.
