Requests prime minister to announce special package for

city; meets ANP’s Shahi Syed

Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar wishes to take all religious and political parties on board to solve the problems of the city. He was addressing the media after meeting Awami National Party (ANP) leader Shahi Syed at his house on Monday.

“Karachi’s elected representatives have the same desire,” said Akhtar. “They also wish to play their role in the city’s progress and development.”

He requested the federal and provincial governments to give more authority to Karachi’s elected representatives and provide all the essential resources to the city. “I also request the prime minister to announce a special package for Karachi, and include such projects in the economic corridor project that could prove beneficial for the city.”

Earlier, the mayor had received a warm welcome upon arriving at Syed’s residence. Syed lauded Akhtar’s wish to solve Karachi’s problems together with all the parties. Prayers were also offered for the late ANP senator Haji Adeel.

The mayor said the city’s population had increased manifold, thereby increasing its problems. “We have a good, passionate team that wants to solve these problems with joint efforts by all political, religious and other parties of the city.”

Akhtar said he would continue meeting with leaders of other parties so that Karachi’s problems could be solved through teamwork. Syed assured him of all possible cooperation from his side.
