The residents of the federal capital have demanded provision of better facilities at weekly bazaars and control on prices of fruits and vegetable.

The trend of weekly bazaars in Islamabad started over decades back to ensure provision of fruit, vegetable and other commodities of daily use on affordable rates but control on prices remains a problem unresolved.

A large number of customers visit weekly bazaars particularly H-9 bazaars and G-6.

The residents feel that boards bearing prices are not displayed at prominent places, while the stallholders also hesitate in displaying price lists which should be visible to customers. As a result, the customers are compelled to purchase fruits at 20% to 30% higher prices than what fixed by the Municipal Corporation of Islamabad (MCI).

“We feel that the Islamabad Mayor and concerned chairmen of union councils take notice of the situation and conduct frequent visits to bazaars,” Zahid, a resident of sector I-9, said.

Meanwhile, the prices of vegetable of winter season are yet to gain stability due to, what the stallholders said, the persistent dry weather. For example, peas was available for Rs130 per kilogram, tomato for Rs48 per kilogram and potato Rs230 per 5 kilograms.

Meanwhile, on the directions of Mayor of Islamabad and Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA), Sheikh Anser Aziz, Chief Officer of MCI, Muhammad Suleman Khan Warraich visited different union councils of Islamabad.

Suleman Khan Warraich visited union council of Sector G-7, G-8, G-9, I-9 and I-10 and inspected the offices of these union councils.

He directed the concerned formations for early completion of these offices in line with the directions of
Mayor of Islamabad and Chairman CDA, Sheikh Anser Aziz, so that the elected representatives of different union councils could address the problems of the residents.
