Success of IDEAS 2016 shows investors’ confidence in Karachi’s potential: Murad
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has said the holding of the international defence exhibition, under the banner of IDEAS 2016, in Karachi shows that national and international organisations have confidence in the city’s potential for offering lucrative opportunities to investors in a peaceful and development-friendly environment.
He expressed these views while talking to Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif after receiving him at Karachi airport's old terminal.
He said the people of Karachi faced long years of worst law and order situation and terrorist attacks. As a result of which, he said, the city had to bear great losses in many sectors.
“With the collective wisdom of political and army leadership and with the political will of the Pakistan Peoples Party government in the province, an intelligence-based targeted operation was launched against terrorists,” he said. He said the operation had produced congenial results and now national and international organisations were posing confidence in this city of opportunities and started coming to attend and participate in exhibitions, programmes and were investing in different sectors.
“This is something very encouraging and I must congratulate to the people of my city for their support and thank the law enforcement agencies for their untiring operations,” he said.
Murad added that he had started developing infrastructures of the city and some works had been started and some were about to start. “Garbage lifting will start by the end of December as a Chinese company has been awarded the contract to lift the garbage,” he said.
Syed Murad Ali Shah said the K-IV bulk water supply scheme had been launched and hopefully it would start providing water to the city. “I am planning to make another water supply arrangement to cater to the needs of the industrial sector,” he said.
Earlier, the chief minister received Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at the old terminals and accompanied him to the IDEAS 2016 Defence Exhibition organised at the Karachi Expo Centre. He also met there with Army Chief General Raheel Sharif.
The prime minister inaugurated the exhibition and visited different stalls. Latter, the chief minister accompanied by the prime minister went to the South City hospital to inquire about health of the Sindh governor.
