Smog continued to prevail over the skies of the provincial capital as well as in other cities of Punjab while Met office predicted scattered rain with thunderstorm in several areas during the next 24 hours.
Met officials said a fresh westerly wave is likely to enter upper parts of the country and likely to persist during next 24 hours. They predicted mainly dry weather in most parts of the country on Friday while rain-thunderstorm with snow over the hills is also expected at scattered places of Malakand, Hazara divisions, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. while at isolated places in Peshawar, Mardan, Rawalpindi divisions, Islamabad and Fata during night.
They also predicted that smog/fog is expected in plain areas of Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Multan, Bahawalpur and Sukkur divisions. Citizens said the smog was affecting their daily life and the government should take up this issue seriously. Many parents appealed to the government to announce holidays in schools so that children could be saved from the adverse effects of poisonous gases. Thursday’s lowest minimum temperature was recorded at Skardu where mercury came down to -02°C while in Lahore, it was 27°C and humidity was 57 percent. —Correspondent
