I observed that on weekends, people throng restaurant buffets. Many a patron leaves lots of food on their plate which goes in the trash bin. Charity organisations accept the leftover food from marriage ceremonies but the mountains left by people on their plates in buffets goes in the garbage bin. I wondered what happened to this food and once asked the manager of a popular restaurant about the waste. He told me that on weekends they have to deal with at least 12 50-gallon drums of leftover food which is sent to the garbage dump.
Such waste is criminal. Perhaps we need to think more about those begging on the streets for a bite to eat before we throw away food like this.
