We bleed too
This refers to the article ‘Do we not bleed?’ (September 20) by Shehzad Akbar. Kudos to the writer for exposing the hypocrisy and prejudice of the US against people of a different colour. The examples of Giovanni Lo Porto and Warren Weinstein, whose deaths during drone attacks were not only acknowledged but also compensated by the US, show that Western values care little for brown people.
Ever since the launch of drone attacks on Pakistan and Afghanistan, hundreds of thousands of innocent people have lost their lives but the Obama administration never bothered to utter even a single word of sympathy or apology for these wretched souls. To the West, our lives are worthless. They just take us as the ‘other’. The high-handedness of the Americans will result in bitterness and acrimony among those at the receiving end. The US will have to revise its attitude.
