Civic duties

By our correspondents

I feel a lot of pain when I see that we, as a nation, are on a moral decline. This is despite the fact that the percentage of educated population is on the rise. The distinction between right and wrong is no longer there. The rights of people are being trampled upon by the mighty. There is no respect for the law and if you have the right connections or right amount of money, you get away with murder. No one cares about our civic or religious obligations regarding others. All sections of our society, whether rich or poor, are equally responsible.

We can hope to become a responsible, caring and morally strong nation if we start investing in educating the coming generations. My advice would be to focus on character building by including subjects like respecting the rights of others, civic responsibilities and moral obligations in the light of religion. If we look around us, successful nations are those whose people have strong moral and work ethics.
