The US won 46 gold medals while Britain and China grabbed 27 and 26 gold medals respectively at the Rio Olympics. This is a lesson for all other nations and particularly for us on how superpowers manage their affairs in each and every field. Our dismal performance in sports reflects the rotten state of affairs in various departments in the country. We only attended the Olympics with wild cards.
It is blatant negligence on the part of Pakistan’s Olympic authorities that they failed to prepare players for the Summer Olympics. They should be asked to answer for this. The government should take note of this deteriorating situation in sports and move heaven and earth for the revival of all sports in the country. If honest and dedicated people are given the task of selecting and preparing players for future great events, we can regain our lost standing in world sports.
