Islamabad: Taimur Shahid, a student of College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering (CEME) and nephew of senior journalist Rashid Khattak, was robbed at gunpoint in front of the college despite the presence of about a dozen guards at the gate of the college in the limits of Noon Police Station.

Giving details of the incident, the victim said that he was returning to his hostel on the premises of CEME, when three men armed with a pistol tried to rob him at about 9p.m. on Friday night. “I was crossing the overhead bridge in front of our college and Daewoo stand when they tried to snatch my laptop, cellular phone and cash,” he added.

The robbed student said that he scuffled with the robbers to save his laptop as it contained important data of his study project. “I shouted and signalled the guards and passers-by but no one came to my rescue," he added.

The victim said that although he saved his laptop yet the robbers managed to make off with his pocket money, cellular phone set and important documents including identity cards. He said that the resistance also caused injuries to him.

The student said that he along with Col Abdul Rahim, an administrative officer of CEME, visited Noon Police Station within 20 minutes of the incident but police didn't take prompt action to arrest the robbers, who most probably were present in the area.

He said that police registered an FIR about missing items instead of robbery. He said that Col Abdul Rahim succeeded to lodge correct FIR after continuous insistence. "I was robbed at about 9p.m. but the correct FIR was lodged at about 3a.m. in the morning," he added.
