Case ordered

GUJRANWALA: The Anti-Corruption Establishment director has ordered registration of a case against five people on the charge of selling land illegally.

In an application to the ACE, Sarfraz said that Muhammad Ashraf, Muhammad Tufail and Saira bought eight marla land in 1994. In 2002, they allegedly sold nine marla land to a trust with the collusion of Patwari Hamid Mir and Gardawar Hamid Nawaz. An inquiry was conducted in which the allegation proved.

TRAFFIC JAM: A four-hour traffic jam caused troubles for the people at Pindi Bypass on Wednesday.

A trailer went out-of-order due to a technical fault at Pindi Bypass Chowk, causing blockage of the road. Resultantly, traffic remained jam on GT Road. Ambulances also stuck in the traffic jam. Later, traffic police succeeded to streamline the traffic after struggle of four hours.

TWO GODOWNS SEALED: The Customs intelligence squad sealed two godowns of smuggled plastic scrap at Wazirabad on Wednesday.

On the orders of Customs Director General Imtiaz Ahmad, SP Muhammad Akmal, Deputy Superintendent Muhammad Anwar and inspectors Majid Raza and Saad Iqbal conducted a raid at Wazirabad and seized two godowns full of plastic scrap, which was smuggled from Iran. A case has been registered against accused Malik Bashir.

 

Man, wife killed in road accident

GUJRANWALA: A man and his wife were killed while their daughter was injured in a road accident at Awan Chowk on Wednesday.

Muhammad Rafiq, a resident of Mehlowala, his wife Sajida and five-year-old daughter Fatima were on way when a speeding truck hit their motorcycle. Resultantly, Muhammad Rafiq and Sajida died on the spot while Fatima was injured. Rescue 1122 staffers shifted the bodies and the injured girl to the DHQ Hospital.

 

Demo against government for not

transferring power to LG reps

GUJRANWALA: A union council chairman along with councillors staged a demonstration against the Punjab government for not transferring power to LG representatives outside the DCO Office here on Wednesday.

Union Council No-34 Chairman Yahya Butt, the vice-chairman and councillors riding on a donkey-cart reached outside the DCO Office where they staged a demonstration. They chanted slogans against the Punjab government for not transferring power to local government representatives. They said that the people of their union council knocked their doors to solve their issues but they had no power and funds

EXCISE TARGET: The Excise and Taxation Department has failed to achieve 100 per cent recovery target during the last year.

According to sources, the department recovered Rs 1,700 million against the target of Rs 1,840 million. A sum of Rs 900.5 million was recovered under the head of property tax, Rs 790.20 million under the head of motor tax, Rs 50.4 million under the head of professional tax, Rs 10.34 million under the head of excise fee and Rs 5.8 million under the head of entertainment tax.
