Mass weddings arranged for 72 deserving couples
MANSEHRA: The District Zakat Committee on Monday arranged mass weddings for 72 deserving couples and provided each bride with Rs200,000 as dowry assistance.
“This is the first time in the district’s history that the Zakat Committee has organised weddings for 72 couples and distributed over Rs 14 million as part of this initiative,” Zulfiqar Khan, Chairman of the District Zakat Committee, told the ceremony held at a local wedding hall.Deputy Commissioner Khalid Iqbal, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s provincial president Kamal Saleem Swati, and divisional general secretary Taimur Saleem Swati also addressed the gathering.
The chairman of the committee said that chairmen of 168 local zakat committees were recently elected through a transparent process to ensure fair and impartial distribution of zakat funds to deserving families.
“We have already been providing financial support to needy families across the district through these committees, and the nomination of couples for this mass wedding was also carried out via the same network,” he said.
Zulfiqar added that the registration process for a second round of mass weddings would soon be launched, and local zakat committees had been directed to ensure the process remains free from outside influence.
Speaking on the occasion, Kamal Saleem Swati said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government was committed to addressing the financial challenges faced by underprivileged segments of society.
“This is a moment of joy not only for those getting married but also for everyone who contributed to and attended this noble event,” he added. The deputy commissioner lauded the Zakat Committee’s efforts, calling them outstanding in extending meaningful support to deserving men and women as they begin their married lives.
