The Middle East has, once again, braced itself for the impact of a full blown war between two arch rivals. The recent retaliation by Iran has posed a severe threat to Israel, with the latter underestimating Iran’s capability to respond. However, assured of full US support, Israel seems confident that it will, eventually, win the conflict. On the diplomatic front, the US remains hopeful that it will be able to use the Israeli attacks to drag Iran back into nuclear talks. The Middle East has long suffered due to its internal crisis, exacerbated by external intervention. The main player instigator remains Israel, backed militarily, politically and diplomatically by the US. This is how it has initiated war on two fronts – one in Palestine and the other against Iran.
The Israel rivalry with Iran is beyond the element of nuclearisation. Israel cannot tolerate a state in the region that challenges its supremacy. Astonishingly, Iran stands before Israel with resistance, resilience and a quest to protect its sovereignty despite decades of sanctions and economic isolation and Israel’s nuclear capability.
