KP Police ordered to withdraw out-of-turn promotions
PESHAWAR: All the regional police officers and unit heads in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been direcred to implement the verdict of the Supreme Court of Pakistan on out -of -turn promotions within two weeks.
Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed has directed all the unit heads and RPOs to implement the verdict of the apex court in letter and spirit in light of the recommendations of the committees about out -of -turn promotions on the basis of gallantry, cadet cops and other categories.
There are different categories of the officers who got speedy promotions in the past years some of which moved the court. Committees were constituted later that heard individual cases and submitted its recommendations to the Central Police Office.
Hundreds of officers are to be reverted to the lower ranks after withdrawal of these promotions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.All the regional and district police officers and heads of units were directed the same a couple of years back.
They were ordered to withdraw rhe promotions after personally hearing all those given the speedy promotions.The Supreme Court of Pakistan in a suo motu case had directed the force to submit the report regarding implementation of the verdict.
The implementation was done in other provinces after the court termed the practice unlawful.According to sources, along with hundreds of other cops, a number of acting superintendents of police, deputy superintendents of police and inspectors are to be affected.
Some of these officers have already served against key positions, including the district police officers as well as SPs in different wings. Once the policy is implemented, many are likely to be placed junior even to their subordinates.The implementation will also create more positions for the junior cops who are to be elevated to fill out the vacated positions.
