This refers to the letter ‘Puzzling shortage’ (May 4, 2025) by Sohail Nasir. It is true that highly qualified faculty members holding PhDs are facing salary problems due to paucity of funds. Unlike the other public servants, they are not given plots to build houses before retirement.
As a result, talented young men and women now prefer to apply elsewhere for employment rather than teach or undertake research in universities. The government needs to strengthen the funding of existing universities rather than establishing new ones.
