SHC quashes terrorism case against SU students
HYDERABAD: The Sindh High Court (SHC) Hyderabad Circuit bench has quashed a case registered under the Anti-Terrorism Act against students of the University of Sindh, Jamshoro.
The case was heard by a divisional bench comprising Justice Amjad Bohio and Justice Amjad Sehto at the Sindh High Court Hyderabad. The students nominated in the case had filed the application through their lawyer Irfan Ahmed Khaskheli.
The Jamshoro SSP and Jamshoro SHO also appeared at the hearing along with the investigation officer and others. The petitioners’ lawyer argued that the students had peacefully protested against the canals project, but the Jamshoro police baton-charged them and fired teargas shells on them. He informed the SHC that the police later registered a case against the students under the ATA.
The case was registered on March 4, 2025, against 100 students of the University of Sindh for protesting against the controversial canal project. As the Jamshoro police did not find any evidence of terrorism in the case, the Jamshoro SSP submitted a report to the high court. After hearing the arguments, the SHC quashed the case.
