CTD arrests ‘TTP operative’ in Keamari raid

The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) on Thursday claimed to have arrested an associate of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan’s (TTP) Noor Wali Mehsud group, who was operating social media for the outlawed outfit.

Officials stated that a threatening video recently went viral on social media, in which the TTP issued threats against certain targets in Karachi. Following this, Sindh police high-ups ordered an investigation and directed the CTD to apprehend those responsible.

SSP Syed Irfan Ali Bahadur, chief of the Sindh CTD, said that after the video surfaced online, the Karachi CTD launched an investigation and examined the footage from multiple angles. The video, shared by the TTP Noor Wali Mehsud group, was intended to instill fear and spread terror in Karachi.

Using advanced technical tools and video analysis, investigators traced the suspect to the Keamari area. Acting on the intelligence, a CTD team conducted a raid and, after facing resistance, arrested Muhammad Umar from Masan Chowk near the KPT Football Ground, Keamari. He was subsequently shifted to the investigation unit for questioning.

During interrogation, the suspect admitted to recording the video on his mobile phone and sending it to his associate, Qehar Maan. Authorities also recovered a handwritten note referring to the TTP, along with the mobile phone used to make the video and a card bearing the name of Noor Wali Mehsud.

A case has been registered against the accused under Section G-ATA-7-11 at the CTD. Further investigations are underway, and joint operations are being conducted to apprehend the suspect’s accomplices and recover additional materials.
