Traders-police coordination committee to be formed soon: Odho
Karachi police chief Javed Odho on Wednesday held an important meeting with a 32-member delegation of the All Karachi Traders Alliance (AKTA) at the Karachi Police Office.
The meeting was attended by AKTA leaders Khawaja Jamal Sethi, Hakeem Shah, Asif Gulfam, Murtaza Hussain, Muhammad Azam, Junaid Qureshi among others. The traders praised the performance of the city police, especially the steps taken to establish law and order, and reduce street crime. They appreciated the efforts of the police to protect residents, and maintain peace in markets.
Addl IG Odho listened carefully to the complaints and suggestions of the traders, and assured them that their problems would be resolved on a priority basis. He said the Traders-Police Coordination Committee would be established soon for strong communication between traders and police, which would be helpful in immediately resolving the problems of traders.
He also said that patrolling of the Shaheen Force in markets would be increased so that a clear reduction in street crime can be brought about, and the safety of traders and the public can be ensured.
He stressed the effectiveness of CCTV cameras in preventing street crime, saying that installing cameras in and around markets would significantly reduce crimes and enable immediate arrest of criminals. Sustainable peace can be established in the city only through mutual cooperation between police and the public.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the AKTA presented a bouquet of flowers to the city police chief, and expressed its best wishes while appreciating his services. Earlier, Odho had chaired a meeting about crime control and traffic management. It was attended by the Karachi Range DIGs, the Traffic DIG, the District SSPs, the Traffic SPs and other senior officers.
The Karachi Range DIGs briefed the meeting about the performance of their respective zones, while the Traffic DIG informed the meeting about the traffic police’s current strategy. The meeting took a detailed review of the current situation of crime, law and order, and traffic accidents this year.
Odho ordered expediting police operations against criminals on a priority basis, and immediately arresting those involved in important cases to curb crime in the city. He also ordered strict legal action against those found violating traffic rules. Instructions were also issued for increased snap checking and patrolling, and taking strict action against aerial firing.
