Commissioner orders completing road repairs
Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi chaired a meeting on Friday to assess the progress of beautification and rehabilitation projects on the city's major roads.
The roads under focus include Sharae Faisal, II Chundrigar Road, Shahrah-e-Quaideen, and Marine Promenade. During the meeting, Naqvi instructed officials to expedite the repair and maintenance of roads, footpaths, and utility chambers, addressing issues faced by pedestrians, particularly on II Chundrigar Road and other key areas.
The meeting also reviewed measures to cover open manholes, repair utility chambers, install streetlights, relocate garbage dumps from prominent areas, and ensure cleanliness across the city. Senior officials present at the meeting included Deputy Commissioners, Assistant Commissioner HQs Rabia Syed, Assistant Commissioner General Hazim Bangwear, Sindh Waste Management Board Managing Director Tariq Nizamani, Regional Director of Local Government Ramzan Pathan, Director General of Municipal Services Tariq Mughal, and Karachi Development Authority (KDA) Chief Engineer Abdul Samad.
Each deputy commissioner provided updates on ongoing projects in their respective districts aimed at improving civic amenities. Deputy Commissioner West Ahmed Ali Siddiqui outlined progress on Manghopir Road and Shahrah-e-Orangi. Deputy Commissioner Central Taha Saleem highlighted improvements on Shahrah-e-Pakistan and Allama Rashid Turabi Road. Deputy Commissioner East Abrar Jaffar shared updates on Shahrah-e-Faisal, while Deputy Commissioner South Altaf Sario focused on II Chundrigar Road. Similarly, Deputy Commissioners for Kemari, Malir, and Korangi —Raja Tariq Chandio, Saleemullah Odho, and Masood Bhutto — discussed ongoing work on major roads in their respective districts.
Saleem informed the meeting that patchwork repairs on Shahrah-e-Pakistan, Sher Shah Suri Road, and Allama Rashid Turabi Road were ongoing. He also announced plans for tree plantation drives in collaboration with non-governmental organisations. Additionally, the beautification of KDA Chowrangi, supported by the Bohra community, was discussed, as well as plans for the development of a model market and a park near AO Clinic. Furthermore, sports complexes were being constructed under flyovers in partnership with the KDA.
