KP govt’s inefficiency caused trouble for Karachiites for 10 days: Ali Khurshidi
Leader of Opposition in the Sindh Assembly Ali Khurshidi has said that Karachi remained paralysed for the past ten days because of the inefficiency on the part of the provincial government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in restoring peace in Parachinar.
The opposition leader, who belongs to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan, stated this on Thursday while speaking at a press conference on the troubled law and order situation in the city for the past couple of days due to protest sit-ins at important road intersections against the worsening security situation in Parachinar in the tribal part of KP.
He lamented that the KP government had failed to fulfil its basic duties. “Resultantly, protest sit-ins were staged in Karachi due to the importance of the city causing serious trouble to the citizens for ten days,” said the opposition leader.
He said the restoration of peace in Parachinar should have been a priority task for the KP government; instead, it was busy invading Islamabad. Khurshidi said that peace in Karachi was a prerequisite for the prosperity and development of Pakistan.
He said the writ of the state shouldn’t be challenged by anyone staging the protest. He made it clear that the MQM-Pakistan wouldn’t make any compromise on Karachi’s peace. He said the MQM would stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the Pakistani armed forces and other law-enforcement agencies for the purpose.
The opposition leader said that many precious lives including those of political leaders and activists had been lost for the cause of restoring peace in Karachi. He said the attacks on policemen on the roads of Karachi weren’t acceptable.
He also recalled the services of the MQM-Pakistan for maintaining sectarian harmony in the city. He suspected that a conspiracy was at play to vitiate the environment of sectarian peace in Karachi. The opposition leader mentioned that followers of every sect lived peacefully in Karachi showing respect for members of other religious schools of thought. He opined that one who denied the economic and political importance of Karachi wasn’t a patriotic citizen.
