AVLS command, control room inaugurated

Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Amin Wains inaugurated newly-established state of the art centralised command and control room built by Anti Vehicle Lifting Staff (AVLS) at its headquarters in Gulberg on Thursday. 

Giving a briefing to CCPO, SP AVLS Awais Malik said that the control had six desks. First desk deals with data of 15. It immediately updates details of snatched or stolen vehicles from calls of 15. Second desk contains details of FIRs registered relating to vehicle lifting or snatching. Third desk maintains record of action taken by the investigation officer taken up on an FIR. Fourth desk carries data of recovered vehicles. Fifth desk has data-collection of stolen vehicles of at least 5 million vehicles from Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad and other parts of the country. It carries all the details like number plate, chaise number, engine number, colour, model and other specifications. Sixth desk has access to data of excise and taxation, SP said and added the data of excise and taxation was just a click away now. He said before they had to physically go to Excise and Taxation office to share details with each other.

The SP told the CCPO that they were working on building software in collaboration with Punjab Information and Technology Board to connect their control room with Punjab Forensic Science Agency. He said it would be a revolutionary step that they could get forensic examination of the vehicle. 

CCPO Amin Wains appreciated the efforts of AVLS. He said it was a revolutionary step as it would help curb crime related to vehicles.

While speaking to the media, the CCPO said establishment of AVLS squad about six months back has drastically reduced vehicle lifting and snatching. He said establishment of a centralised computerised control room of AVLS would definitely boost of its performance in a city where there at least 50 million vehicles were on roads.
