KARACHI: Federal Minister for Defence Khawaja Asif has said he definitely knows that the trial of former ISI DG Faiz Hameed has not yet begun.
He said this in response to a query while speaking on a private television news channel on Wednesday.
The defence minister said nothing can be said with certainty at this stage on whether Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan will be tried by a military court. He remarked that one could only speculate on this right now and he did not want to make any speculation.
When asked whether the decision to try Khan in a military court would be taken on the basis of the statement recorded by Faiz Hameed, Khawaja Asif initially replied that “I tend to agree with you [the host of the TV programme]”, but he immediately clarified that it was all speculation.
He stated that as far as his knowledge was concerned, Faiz Hameed had been taken into custody for investigation, and only after the investigation was completed, a challan could be prepared to be presented before a military court.
