US envoy attends UOE event
LAHORE:Consul General of the US Consulate Lahore Kristin K. Hawkins attended the closing ceremony of the Idea Sports Programme, organised by the University of Education (UOE) at main campus Township here on Friday.
Addressing the ceremony, Kristin Hawkins emphasised the enduring collaboration between Baylor University USA and the University of Education, Lahore, adding that this partnership would further strengthen the bonds between Pakistan and the United States.
UOE Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Aqif Anwar Ch presided over the event while Government College University for Women, Faisalabad Vice Chancellor Dr Zill-e-Huma participated as the guest of honour.
The year-long Idea Sports Programme was launched by the University of Education in collaboration with the US Consulate Lahore, Baylor University USA, University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW), University of North Carolina Pembroke (UNCP), Forman Christian College University Lahore, Kinnaird College University Lahore, and Government College University for Women Faisalabad.
The programme aimed to promote leadership among women through sports, with 28 teachers and over 1,000 female students from 10 selected schools receiving training under this initiative.
In his opening remarks, Prof Dr Aqif Anwar highlighted the impact of the programme in empowering women with essential life skills. “This programme will foster global citizenship, create a healthy nation, and develop a skillful workforce for future generations,” he stated. The event also featured a showcase of sports skills by the female trainee students, demonstrating the success of the programme in cultivating leadership through sports.
PU awards PhD degrees to three scholars
Punjab University has awarded PhD degrees to three of its scholars. According to details, Ejaz Ahmed has been awarded PhD degree in the subject of Philosophy, Shahid Rehman Khan in the subject of Polymer Technology and Syed Muhammad Shahid Hussain in the subject of Chemical Engineering.
