Every issue is treated by our government like a nail that needs a hammer. Not content to merely control traditional media, our rulers have started experimenting with different ways to gate-keep the internet. Pakistan's current predicament is a result of the elite's propensity to focus more on the symptoms rather than the underlying causes. This tendency is evident in everything from budget strategies to security policies, all of which regularly miss the forest for the trees. For this reason, it may be worth revisiting why so many citizens are unhappy with the state and what policies have contributed to their feelings of discontent. There is an urgent need for them to rethink their approach.
