ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Tuesday slammed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for announcing a development package for Gilgit-Baltistan ahead of the local government elections, terming the act a form of ‘pre-poll rigging’.
On the social media, Imran criticised the prime minister, who announced multi-billion uplift schemes in the region during his public meeting there. Imran termed the announcement ‘brazen poll rigging’, saying it was ‘absolutely unacceptable’.
The PTI chief emphasised that the ruling PML-N must learn the ‘essentials of democracy’, which included ‘free and fair elections’.Imran alleged that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had not been able to rise above cronyism and the use of money to buy buy influence. He alleged the prime minister’s uplift schemes were merely political gimmicks.
PTI Secretary General Jehangir Tareen moved the Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Election Commissioner regarding PM’s pre-poll rigging bid in the region. He dispatched a letter along with evidence in this connection to the poll chief of the region.
