Malaria and dengue claim hundreds of lives in Pakistan each year but the issue almost always goes unnoticed by the municipal and union council authorities. The lack of large-scale fumigation drives is a matter of grave concern.
The health authorities must issue directives to local authorities to initiate robust measures to curb the proliferation of mosquito-borne diseases. Aside from fumigation, the municipal authorities should also be provided with mosquito nets and repellents which must then be distributed among the communities most at risk.
