The owner of a stationery shop was killed and his brother wounded in a firing incident in District Central on Wednesday. Meanwhile, an unidentified body with bullet wounds was found at a deserted place near the Northern Bypass.
Police said the incident in District Central took place at a stationery shop in Yousuf Plaza in Federal B Area where unidentified men opened fire on the victims. As a result of the firing, the two brothers were wounded and shifted to the Civil Hospital, Karachi, where 55-year-old Habibur Rehman succumbed to his injuries. His brother Ziaur Rehman remains admitted to the hospital.
Police and family members said the deceased man had been running the shop along with his brothers for around 35 years. Three brothers were present at the shop when the incident took place, police said, adding that the deceased man was shot twice and the bullet that hit his chest proved fatal.
Habib was the father of five children. Police said the motive behind the firing is yet to be ascertained and a case has been registered. Separately, the body of an unidentified man who had been shot was found near the Northern Bypass within the limits of the Gulshan-e-Maymar police station. Upon receiving the information, police and rescue workers reached the scene and transported the casualty to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
The body was later moved to a morgue for want of identification. Police said the victim was strangled before being shot and they did not find any empty shell from the crime scene, which suggested that the body was thrown at the abandoned place after the man was killed somewhere else. A case has been registered and investigations are under way.
