Sattar meets Sunni Tehreek leader to discuss electoral alliance possibility
A delegation of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) led by the party's senior deputy convener Dr Farooq Sattar on Saturday met Pakistan Sunni Tehreek (PST) leader Sarwat Ejaz Qadri to discuss the possibility of electoral alliance and other issues related to the upcoming elections.
A statement issued by the MQM-P after the meeting quoted Dr Sattar as saying the MQM-P wanted to build a bigger coalition for Karachi. “Our alliance is necessary for the due rights of the people of Karachi,” he said.
He stated that the politics of those who occupied the city by force and fraudulent mandate should be eliminated. He added that he had met the PST leadership to formulate a common strategy for the future.
The MQM-P leader said that unemployment had been increasing rapidly, especially in Karachi, and there were no job opportunities available for the city’s youth. The irony was that on the one hand, joblessness was at its peak, and on the other hand, skyrocketing inflation had crossed all the limits, he said.
Dr Sattar said that if Karachi ran, the entire Pakistan would run. Unluckily, Karachi paid a tax of 4,000 billion but it received 40 billion in return in a manner of donation, he remarked.
During the meeting, Dr Sattar discussed constitutional amendments proposed by the MQM-P to strengthen the local body governments. Municipal bodies and local governments should get resources, he said.
Both the leaders agreed on forming a two-member committee to keep in touch and decide the future course of action in the best interest of Karachi.
