Six of a family among seven die in two accidents
LAHORE:Around seven people, including six of a family, died and three were seriously injured in two different road accidents here Sunday. Two speeding cars collided with each other in Defence Phase VII, resulting into death of six persons. The victims were identified as Rukhsana,45, Anabiya,4, 4-month-old Huzaifa, Muhammad Hussain,27, Sajjad,30, and Ayesha, 23.
The police arrested the driver who was identified as Afnan Shafqat. The people who died in the accident belonged to the family of Rafaqat Ali. The unfortunate family was traveling in two vehicles. Rafaqat Ali along with his family was on his way back from the house of his daughter's in-laws living in DHA Phase VII.
In another incident, a man died and three others injured in a collision between a passenger van and a trailer in the Raiwind City area. The victim was identified as Nadeem, 40. The injured identified as Akram,23, Ali, 23, and Arbaz, 25, were shifted to Jinnah Hospital. Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi has expressed his deep grief over the incidents and ordered to undertake a legal action against the drivers responsible for committing negligence.
23 die in road accidents in 24 hours
The Emergency Services Department (ESD) responded to 1,213 road traffic accidents in all districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours.
In these accidents, 23 people died, whereas 1,297 were injured. Out of these, 671 people with serious injuries were shifted to different hospitals, while 626 victims with minor injuries were treated on the spot by Rescue medical teams.
PO arrested from abroad
A proclaimed offender wanted in a double murder case was arrested from Italy after 17 years. The accused identified as Abrar Hussain along with his accomplices had killed two citizens in the Satellite Town area of Gujranwala in 2006. After the incident, the murderer first fled to South Africa and then to Netherland.
Punjab Police issued a red notice from Interpol.
The accused was finally arrested from Italy three months ago and was being brought back to Pakistan.
Man commits suicide
A 40-year-old man committed suicide by injecting himself with a poisonous substance in the Sabzazar area on Sunday. The victim was identified as Adnan Munir. The exact cause of death was yet to be ascertained but preliminary probe suggested that he injected himself with a poisonous substance. The body was shifted to the mortuary.
