WANA: The Department of Agriculture (Extension), South Waziristan, has installed an olive oil extraction machine in Agri Park in Wana to facilitate the local farmers in extracting the oil.
An official said that the farmers from South Waziristan would no longer go to Peshawar to extract oil from the olives. He said that the machine was made in Turkey and it had the capacity to crush 200kg of olive fruit in an hour.
Director Agriculture Dr Muhammad Anwar said that olive saplings would be planted on vast areas in South Waziristan, including sub-divisions Jandola and Darazinda. He said that so far 322 acres of high-quality olive had been planted. The official said that wild olives were also found in the mountains of South Waziristan.
