Explosives, arms recovered from coalmine

KALAYA: The security forces on Saturday recovered explosives and huge cache of arms from a coal mine in lower parts of Orakzai Agency and arrested the suspected militant, official sources said.The officials of the Orakzai Scouts raided a house in Sra Khona area and arrested a suspected militant identified as Rasheed Hassan.The security forces recovered 23 hand-grenades, 116 RPGs, 17 MM-14 bombs, two anti-aircraft guns, a rocket launcher as many 12.7-MM and 14.5-MM guns, a 75-RR gun, a 82-MM gun and other ammunition dumped in the coal mine.The security forces arrested the owner of the coal mine, the sources said.

Woman dies, six injured in Lahore

LAHORE: A woman was killed while six others received injuries when a heavy wheel of a machinery fixed in an iron factory disassembled all of sudden and fell on the roof of a house in the Baghbanpura police limits on Saturday. The condition of two injured persons is stated to be critical. Police have handed over the body to the family after completing legal formalities. Rescuers said workers were busy in their work when the wheel of a machine situated in Mahmood Booti broke off and fell on the adjacent house. As a result, the house caved in and the inhabitants were trapped in the debris.  They recovered Musarrat Bibi dead from the debris. They also rescued six persons.

Rain spell forecast until tomorrow

Islamabad: Pakistan eteorological Department has forecast a rainy spell until tomorrow (Monday). According to meteorologist Rashid Bilal, there is a high likelihood of thundershowers falling in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, upper Punjab, Fata, AJK, Gilgit-Baltistan and Balochistan during the next 48 hours. "Until Monday (December 12), rains coupled with thunderstorm are expected at scattered places in KP including Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Kohat, Mardan, Bannu and Dera Ismael Khan divisions, Fata, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan and at isolated places in upper Punjab including Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Lahore, Faisalabad divisions, Quetta, Zhob divisions.

WFP extends wheat and flour fortification project in AJK

MUZAFFARABAD: The World Food Programme (WFP) has decided to extend its wheat and flour fortification project in Azad Kashmir (AJK) for further one year with the aim to overcome the anemia problem in the poor class in collaboration with Micro-nutrient Initiative (MI), said Secretary Food department Raja Muhammad Abbas here on Friday.  Abbas said that this was decided in a high level meeting attended by WFP officials, senior technical adviser MI headquarter Dr. Noor Ahmad Khan and Policy officer MI Dr. Masood Abbasi besides officials of the food department to review the impacts of the project.
