The slogan of socialism

This refers to the news report, ‘Dr Asim isn’t a terrorist: Aitzaz Ahsan’ (December 27). While addressing a rally in Larkana, Senator Aitzaz Ahsan described the PPP as a democratic and socialist party.

The world at large does not consider the selection of a party leader for life and by inheritance as democratic. As far as socialism is concerned, the PPP senator seems to be confusing the enriching of leaders with socialism. When was the last time Aitzaz Ahsan demanded the betterment of the poor and workers as forcibly as he demanded more privileges for himself and his co-senators? In the end, he did let the truth out of the bag by stating that the PPP has to return to the slogans of socialism. Socialism is merely a slogan for the PPP leadership.
