PESHAWAR: The month-long youth membership campaign of Jamaat-i-Islami is commencing today (Saturday) across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and adjacent tribal areas that would continue till March 20.

This was announced by provincial president of the party Mushtaq Ahmad Khan while addressing a news conference here on Friday. He said the youth membership campaign would provide strength to the JI efforts to rid the country of corruption.

He said that online membership of the youth would be made in the province and tribal years. He added that at least 0.5 million new members would be inducted in the province and 0.1 million in the tribal areas.

The JI provincial chief said the membership process was easy. “Anyone interested in acquiring the party membership can dial 9291 from his mobile phone and he would get a voice message confirming his membership,” he added.

He said the youth wing of the party would be another branch of the party like Islami Jamiat-i-Talaba (IJT), Jamiat Talaba Arabia (JTA) and Shabab-e-Milli Pakistan. Provincial president of the youth wing Mohammad Ibrar Akbar and Fata president Shah Jehan Afridi were also present on the occasion.

Mushtaq Ahmad Khan said that on completion of the membership drive, the new members would elect their office-bearers at the provincial and lower levels. During the membership drive, he said awareness about the campaign would be created among the people and the party workers would make direct contacts with people in the province and the tribal areas.

The JI leader said that at least 500 youth would be made members of the wing in each union council of the province. He said that teams of party workers would visit different localities to ensure maximum registration of the youth. Camps would also be set up at different educational institutions to register students in the youth wing, he maintained.

He said the young generation could play a vital role in bringing about positive change in society. He said the youth needed to be organised properly to rid the society of the menace of corruption. The JI leader said it was the right of the youth to receive education, healthcare and employment. He added that the government was required to provide basic amenities to the people.
