PESHAWAR: The district administration Tuesday launched a long-awaited action against owners of private plazas for using parking space for commercial purposes that are causing traffic jam on busy roads in the provincial capital.
The administration sealed 14 buildings for using parking lots for commercial purposes, said an official.The owners had agreed to stop commercial activities at the parking lots in the buildings at a meeting with Deputy Commissioner, Peshawar, Riaz Khan Mahsud a few days ago.
After expiry of the deadline, the teams headed by Assistant Commissioner Altaf Sheikh, Additional Assistant Commissioner Abdul Nabi, XEN Town-I Rasheedullah Khan and others started crack down on violators.
They sealed City Mobile Centre and Chairman Plaza on Ashraf Road, Ali Medical Plaza and Dir Medical Plaza in front of Lady Reading Hospital (LRH), Sona Centre on Naz Cinema Road.Similarly, AAC Anwarul Haq along with Director PDA Najib Afridi and other staff sealed Silicon Computer Plaza, Jababr Plaza and Shinwari Plaza on University Road on same charges.
AAC Imran Khan and TOR Habib Afridi sealed Dilawar Plaza, Dir Maidan Plaza and Shafi Plaza on Gulberg Road in Peshawar Saddar for renting out the parking areas, said an official.Deputy Commissioner Riaz Khan Mahsud said operation against such plazas and buildings using parking space for commercial purposes would continue without any pressure or interference.
