‘Early diagnosis vital for cancer cure’
LAHORE
Early detection of cancer in children and proper treatment under the supervision of qualified Paediatric Oncologists always makes it easier to cure the disease, said Dr. Sadia Javed Khan, Consultant Paediatric Oncologist, SKMCH&RC in an interview on International Childhood Cancer Day.
Dr. Sadia Javed Khan, in a press statement on Monday, said it was less likely for children to have heart, liver or lungs diseases as faced by adults due to smoking, unhealthy diet routine and depression.
That is why cancer is more curable in children compared to adults and the mortality rate in children is also much lesser than the adults.
Dr. Sadia further said unfortunately in Pakistan the numbers of paediatric oncologists were much less which was resulting in late diagnosis and the treatment could be more challenging in such circumstances.
Therefore it is requested to all the Pakistani doctors that if a child patient came to them with anemia, abdomen tumor, bone pain or tumor, they should immediately refer the patient to a Paediatric Oncologist so that the patient could get proper and timely treatment.
