Party offers to play role of mediator to help end crisis
Karachi
The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has strongly opposed the privatisation of the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), announcing its support for the protesting employees of the national flag carrier.
Senior leaders of the MQM, including MNA Dr Farooq Sattar, met protesting employees on Sunday and maintained that the party would not let their sacrifices go to waste.
Speaking to the protesting employees of PIA during his visit to their camp, Dr Farooq Sattar said the rulers were not of the difference between privatisation and destruction.
Sattar likened the PIA crisis to a total devastation, saying his party stood by the employees of the national flag carrier.
“PIA is nobody’s personal property. We will present your demands to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar,” he said to the protestors while promising that he would soon travel to Islamabad for the purpose.
The MQM leader said the party was also ready to play the role of mediator between the government and protesting employees of PIA.
“Protecting the national institutions is like saving Pakistan,” he added. He also demanded for an immediate recovery of the missing employees of the PIA.
