The Sindh Police’s Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) claimed to have recovered 50 kilograms of explosives in a raid in the Manghopir area on Thursday.

In a statement, the CTD said that a TTP terrorist, Meharban Badshah, who had been arrested in Hyderabad, had disclosed a storage location in Karachi. A raid was conducted to recover 50kg of explosives, two Kalashnikovs, two rifles, eight grenades, and four pistols.

Customs’ recovery

The Pakistan Customs Intelligence recovered 22,000 kilograms of explosive materials from a container that had been stored at the Karachi Port since November 20, 2015.

A Customs spokesman said the container (CBHU-8570130) came to Karachi from China and had been stored at the port for over a month now. It was meant to be shipped upcountry but, according to the official, was not sent as the Peshawar Customs Intelligence had, some time back, caught two containers which had arrived at the Karachi Port along with this one and found explosives in them.

Since the importer failed to approach the Customs Department for any clearance, information was shared with the Karachi Customs Intelligence Department and yesterday’s raid was conducted. Efforts were being made to track the importer.
