SC orders re-polling in Dadu

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC), while setting aside a decision of the election tribunal, ordered re-polling in constituency PS-76 Dadu in Sindh. Perveen Junejo had resigned after being elected as MPA from the constituency and the election tribunal declared Liaqat Jatoi winning candidate as being runner-up.

A three-member SC bench headed by Justice Mian Saqib Nisar strongly criticised the ET verdict and questioned who made Nowsherwan a judge and head of the tribunal. "He calls himself a doctor but doesn't know the law," it observed.

"The runner-up in the polls was declared winner. It is our bad luck that such people are sitting in the ET. Polls aimed at bringing to fore people aspirations and wishes," the court observed. The court remarked tribunals should give decisions according to the law. Nullifying ET decision, the SC ordered re-polling in the constituency. The court directed Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to issue election schedule in this constituency.
