354 outlets fined for violating law
LAHORE:Adopting a uniform policy against small and big food businesses, Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Monday checked around 1,868 food points and fined 354 outlets across the province.
Checking campaign of restaurants, hotels and fast food points was started on the direction of PFA DG. During the campaign, 354 food points were fined for violating food laws and corrective notices issued to 1,424.
DG Food Authority said that 610 litres of used oil, 140kg meat, 75 litres of beverages, 63kg expired food items, 45kg straw fruit was also wasted at the spot. He said 677 food points were checked in Lahore zone, 526 in Rawalpindi, 252 in Multan and 154 in Muzaffargarh zone.
DG PFA said that food points were fined for use of rancid oil and expired raw material. He said substandard storage, unhealthy meat, rotten fruits, poor quality beverages and expired open spices were also found at several food points, he added.
DG PFA said violators of the law are prosecuted without discrimination and on equal merit. The law will be implemented equally on small and big businesses and there was no compromise on food quality, he concluded.
