Nasir inaugurates first of libraries to be set up in all Sindh UCs

Sindh Information and Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah on Sunday launched a project to set up a public library in each of the union councils in Sindh.

The first such library having the facilities of reading books both physically and through digital means was inaugurated by the local government minister in the UC 28, Bilal Town, District West of Karachi.

According to a statement issued, Shah said on the occasion that they had been making efforts to establish a public library in each of the union councils of the province.

He stated that financial resources available with the 1,526 UCs of the province would be utilised to establish public libraries. Efforts had begun to upgrade the status of the existing public libraries of different municipal agencies of the province, he added.

The local government minister maintained that such efforts of the provincial government would go a long way to motivate the youth to the healthy habit of book reading. He added that the government would make efforts to provide the best environment, modern facilities and books on diversified subjects at these libraries.

Shah promised that the civic infrastructure of the district would be improved and the perennial issue of water scarcity would also be resolved. He said the youth of the province would be given jobs on merit at the UC-level.

He said the Pakistan Peoples Party would secure more electoral victories in the upcoming local government polls in the city.

He also warned that Karachi could face a massive influx of refugees from Afghanistan owing to the alarming situation in the neighbouring country. He appealed to the opposition political parties, particularly the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan, Pak Sarzameen Party and Jamaat-e-Islami, to sit with the government to adopt a strategy to deal with the possible refugee problem.
