LAHORE : A clash broke out on Saturday between the police and the family members of two people who were killed on Friday night over an old enmity. They staged a protest demonstration against the killings on Ring Road and blocked the road. Police used baton charge and teargas to disperse them.
At least eight family members of victims Naseer Ahmed and his wife Nusrat had already been killed over an old enmity. Naseer of Rut Garh Manawan was also a complainant in a double murder case.
The double murder sparked anguish among the victims’ family members and relatives, who gathered on Ring Road, Mahmood Booti, placed dead bodies there and blocked the two sides of the road in protest. They demanded the arrest of the killers and alleged that the police were reluctant to take action against the people involved in murders.
They chanted slogans against the police, burnt tyres and blocked Ring Road for hours, following which police officials reached the spot to clear the road and pacify them.
The enraged protesters refused to clear the road and started pelting stones at police and the commuters. Police resorted to lathi-charge and fired teargas shells to disperse the protesters. The hours-long protest caused a great deal of inconvenience for the motorists who found no traffic police there to guide them for alternative routes.
Meanwhile, Manawan police registered a case against eight persons Amir, Ali Hassan, Aqib, Javed Iqbal, Azhar, Suhail, Samina Bibi and their an unidentified accomplice under Sections 302, 34, 109 PPC, on the complaint of Safia Bibi who happened to be an elder sister of victim Nusrat Bibi. As per complainant Safia Bibi, victim Naseer Ahmed was her brother-in-law and Nusrat Bibi her sister. Victim Naseer, his wife Nusrat Bibi, sister-in-law Safia Bibi and nephew Lal Hussain were on their way to the office of SP Cantt in connection with a case (No 751/21) registered under Sections 302, 34, 109 PPC on the complaint of Naseer Ahmed when they were ambushed. Accused Amir, his brother Ali Hassan, and two accomplices including one Aqib intercepted them on Sialkot Motorway near Haveli Riaz and opened an indiscriminate firing at them. As a result, Naseer and his wife Nusrat Bibi died on the spot. The complainant accused Javed Iqbal, Azhar, Suhail and Samina Bibi of being involved in the murder.
