Firing accused yet to be arrested

LAHORE: Lahore police failed to round up the armed men who opened indiscriminate fire in a high security zone which left one woman dead and six other people injured outside Camp Jail on Ferozepur Road Saturday night.

However, Lytton Road police has registered a case against six persons on charges of killing a woman and injuring six others outside Camp Jail. The case has been registered under Sections 302, 324, 148, 149 and 109 PPC on the complaint of Zulfiqar, a resident of Jehangir Park, Shahdara Town.

As per complainant Zulfiqar, he worked in a fruit market. He was arrested in a murder case (No 1990/20) registered at Shahdara Town police station and sent to Camp Jail. On July 3, his interim bail was accepted and he was released.

His wife Mumtaz Bibi, daughter Iqra and other relative Muhammad Kibria received him outside Camp Jail. His wife and daughter were about to step into a rickshaw when accused Azhar Khan and Tanveer Mughal along with their unidentified accomplices came there in a car and on a motorcycle and opened indiscriminate firing, as a result, his, daughter, rickshaw driver Ghulam Rasool, son of Muhammad Yar, and three passersby; Imdad Ullah, 24, son of Ajmal, Zahid, 13, son of Abdul Sattar and a woman, Rukhsana, wife of Muhammad Nawaz, were injured. The accused escaped from the scene after committing the crime in a high security zone.

The injured were rushed to hospital but Mumtaz succumbed to her wounds. The complainant said the accused attacked his family on the instigation of one Saleem Khan who had promised to take revenge. When contacted, Lytton Road investigation police said that efforts were being made to trace the killers.
