Workers Welfare Fund yet to release scholarships, grants
Lahore:Inaction on the part of the Workers Welfare Fund secretary and his subordinates has put education of the workers’ children at stake as 32,000 cases of scholarships as well as of death grants and marriage grants for the children of labourers are pending with the Workers Welfare Fund from all over Punjab.
“They are exploiting the families of the workers,” Muttahida Labour Federation (MLF) and Pakistan Mazdoor Mahaz (PMM) said this in a press statement.
In a joint meeting of Muttahida Labour Federation and Pakistan Mazdoor Mahaz, their leaders
Nazir Shehzad, Hanif Ramay and Chaudhry Muhammad Ashraf informed the participants that at present, death grants, marriage grants and scholarships for workers’ children from 36 districts of Punjab were due.
Around 32,000 cases have been blocked by Workers' Welfare Board officials for years. The labour unions warned of besieging the secretary’s office if he did not change his attitude. The unions vowed to continue their protest until the issue was resolved.
